Frequently Asked Questions

What is root canal treatment?

Root canal treatment removes infection from inside a tooth, relieves pain, and helps save your natural tooth.

Why do I need it?

You may need root canal treatment if the nerve inside your tooth has become infected or damaged due to decay, trauma, or a crack.

Does it hurt?

No. The treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic, so it should be comfortable. Most patients say it’s similar to having a filling.

How long does it take?

Treatment usually takes 60–90 minutes. Some teeth can be treated in one visit, while others may need two appointments.

What’s the recovery like?

It’s normal to have some tenderness for a few days. This is usually managed with over-the-counter pain relief, and most people return to their normal routine the same day or the next.
